Tips to Using My Digital Files

Make sure that you have the proper software to open the files that you are trying to open.  If it is a PDF file, you will need Adobe.  If it is a SVG file and you would like to edit that file, you will need Adobe Illustrator, Cricut software, Silhouette software, or other SVG file editing software.  You can also convert files as needed with an online converter such as Cloud Convert.

Know the difference between file types

A jpg or png file is like a picture.  You cannot manipulate the shapes.  An svg file has separate parts and you can make these smaller or larger without messing with the resolution.  You can also ungroup this file and make changes to the individual parts of an svg.

If this is a laser file

Red = Cut

Green = Score

Purple = Engrave

Understanding Kerf

If there are pieces that need to fit together tightly, you will need to measure the thickness of your wood with calipers.  Your laser also burns an additional portion of material off as it cuts the material.  This is known as kerf and will need to be taken into account when you are making those pieces fit together.  See this article for more information.
