Description

Using a laser cutter in your classroom with students, but not sure where to begin? In this Laser Cutter Step by Step for Students and Teacher Guide using Tinkercad, students will use the basics of Tinkercad to create alaser cutter file. I consider this lesson to be on an intermediate level. I have successfully used this lesson with students as young as 3rd grade, but works best with middle school students or high school/adult learners. This is a perfect project for a coding club or a STEM classroom. You can also use this to teach 3D design to yourself!

Included in this file:

  • 33 Page Teacher Guide
  • Tinkercad Terms and Categories Glossary
  • Over 57 Teacher and Student Slides
  • Student Journal Paper
  • Step-by-step instructions (PDF and Website)
  • Video Tutorial

This lesson includes 1 module

Learn how to create a laser file then challenge yourself to create a new design with different shapes using what you have learned.

In the teacher guide, you will learn how to introduce this software to students. There is a Google Slides for teachers to introduce the STEM Lesson with different constraints. You can also use the slides to go through this lesson step by step WITH students following along. If you would like your students to have more autonomy or would like to use this as an independent lesson, there are step-by-step slides for students, printouts (PDF), website instructions, AND video instructions for students to use as they create their file. Once they have created the file as laid out in the lesson plan, they can use what they have learned to create their own.

You can have students use this lesson to practice with 3D design software, even if you don’t have a laser cutter. However, you must have a laser cutter or a way to print out the students’ designs if you would like them to have access to the tangible result.
